Beijing Shopping Tour

Itinerary of Half Day Shopping Tour: Yaxiu Market + Wangfujing Commercial Street.
The prices of goods at large department stores and shops are generally fixed. But at the indoor and outdoor market, such as Yaxiu, you can bargain with merchants. Skilled bargainers usually cut the asking price by half and then increase it a little to reach a deal.

Sanlitun Yaxiu Market -- Beijing's clothing Bazaar. You can find a lot of clothing and daily necessities on the first and second floor. Good tailors can be found on the third floor. The fourth floor is a fine hunting ground for souvenirs and gifts -- there are kites from Weifang in Shandong, calligraphy materials, army surplus gear, tea sets, and farmer's paintings from Xian(laughably claiming to be originals by Pan Xiaoling, the most frequently copied artist). The basement and the first two floors house a predictable but comprehensive collection of imitation and pilfered brand-name clothing, shoes, and luggage. The market is just west of Sanlitun Jiuba Jie, is open daily from 9:30am to 8:00pm

Wangfujing Street:
This is Beijing's busiest commercial area and is normally full of shoppers. Besides many shops and restaurants there is an very large many storied mall. Prices are reasonable in this area as many stores are government owned. The street has recently been completely renovated.
The area is a good area to shop in as the visitor will not be cheated or overcharged.
No bargaining here, but lots of fun. The weekend is the most crowded time.
