Yat-sen Memorial Hall,situated
in the original site of Sun Yat-sen's Presidential Office on the southern
slope of Yuexiu Hill, a key historical relic protected by Guangdong Province.

Memorial Hall is a memorial building built with the funds raised by the Guangzhou people
and overseas Chinese in memory of Sun Yat-sen, the great revolutionary
forerunner.
Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall covering
an area of 12,000 square meters with a height of 46 meters, has magnificent
exterior and elegant interior decorations. It
is an octagonal structure built in traditional Chinese style and contains
a 4700 seat auditorium for theatre performances. The designer, Mr. Lu
Yanzhi, the great architect of the country,
skillfully applied the structural theory of architectural mechanics taking
full advantage of the benefits of reinforced concrete. The construction
space with the span of up to 71 meters is pillar-less, much to its grandeur.
Above the entrance of the door, there is a plaque that bears the words
in gold "Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall" inscribed by Liao Chengzhi,
the vice chairman of the standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
The statue of Sun Yat-sen in front of the hall was cast with bronze for
a change. The square and the surroundings have also been further beautified.

Memorial Hall is the most symbolic building of Guangzhou, and also a key
venue for the city's large-scale meetings and performances.
