Museum
Guizhou Provincial Museum situates at the Beijing Road
in Guiyang City. It lies in the south of the Qianling Park and has convenient
traffic and beautiful scenes. The museum is a provincial-level comprehensive
museum and the only museum which reflects the pre-historical culture,
the ancient culture and the ethnic culture of Guizhou in China. Covering
a space of 19,300 square meters, the museum was prepared in 1953 and opened
to the public in 1958.
The museum has a collection of over 60,000 items of relics and samples.
For instance, the fossils of front teeth and front molar of the Tongzi
Ape-man, the lower jawbone and the thighbone of the Xingyi Man, an iron
sword with bronze handle in Warring States Period, a pottery pot with
the inscriptions of a long article from the year of 104 and a Zhunyi Type
bronze drum from the Song Dynasty (960-1279). The relics of minority groups
are one of the key collections of the Museum. There are over 1,000 items
of embroidery, wax printing, cross-stitch work, brocade and silver jewelry
and ornament of the minority people. The modern and contemporary relics
and revolutionary relics include the uniform worn by the uprising armies
during the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (1851-1864), the Notice Issued by
General Political Department of Red Army, the printing machine once used
by the Red Army, and the leaflets distributed by the Red Army. In addition,
the Museum has also collected quite a number of painting and calligraphy,
diary and the original letters of the celebrities of Guizhou, such as
Zheng Zhen and Mo Youzhi. Besides, the Museum has also edited and published
large pictorials of the Red Army's Long March in Guizhou, the Epitaph
Selections of Guizhou Province, the Catalogue of Collections of Guizhou
Provincial Museum as well as the Periodical of Guizhou Provincial Museum.
Temporary exhibitions are held on the ground floor while the first floor
houses a general exhibition of Guizhou's natural resources and an interesting
display of archaeological finds of the area. The museum always holds some
theme exhibitions on ethnic cultures, photography of the culture relics
of Guizhou and so on. All of the things preserved in the museum have great
value on the study of the ancient history and culture. The museum has
contributed a lot in spreading the culture and the ethnic custom to all
the people both in China and overseas. It presents a very good platform
that the whole world can know more and know better about Guizhou and China.
