Huangguoshu Waterfall

Located at Anshun the southwest of Guiyang City, Huangguoshu Waterfall is known to be the largest and the grandest waterfall in China and the second largest in the world. With 74 meters high and 81 meters wide, the whole waterfall offers a spectacular view to the visitors.
After entering the Huangguoshu National Park, you will first visit a botanical garden, which has many cactuses with different shapes and some other plants. Then walk along a narrow path along the hillside, the huge waterfall is not in a long distance. The wooden constructed waterfall-viewing pavilion is a very good place for viewing the magnificence of the waterfall. One thing to be mentioned is that the droplets from the waterfall will make you wet, nevertheless, I don't advise you to take the umbrella, since to watered by the waterfall is a very good experience once in a blue moon. As you are very close to the waterfall, you will see a stone tablet with carved Chinese characters " Shui Lian Dong (water curtain cave)". With 134 meters long, water curtain cave is a narrow cave behind the waterfall which named after the home of the legendary Monkey King in "Pilgrimage to the West," an ancient Chinese myth. While in the cave, you can even touch the waterfall. When you walk out of the cave, you will surprised that you just come to the other end of the waterfall! Then walk along the narrow path, go across the hanging bridge, you can simply get to the plunge pool, which called Rhinoceros Pool (Xi Niu Tan) since it shaped like a rhinoceros. The bank of the pool is considered to be the best place for viewing the whole waterfall. You can take many beautiful pictures at here with each a brilliant landscape painting. In flood season, the huge stream of pouring water makes the precipitous cliffs trembling. It is particularly superb when rainbows arch from the plunge pool of the waterfall under the shining sun. In dry season, water would be separated into several streams falling down from the overhanging cliffs like a fairy maiden's elegant hair, charming and graceful. You will surely enjoy yourself here.
Huangguoshu Waterfall is the best known of some 18 in a cluster of waterfalls called Huangguoshu Waterfalls Cluster. Its flow is seasonally adjusted. A reservoir behind the waterfall holds back some of the water. Doupotang Water-fall, one kilometer (less than one mile) up the river to Huangguoshu Waterfall, at 105 meters (344 feet) across is the widest. It is 21 meters (69 feet) high. Other waterfalls like LuosiTan Waterfall, Silver-Chain Waterfall and Dishuitan Waterfall all have their distinct features. You can view them in Tianxing Bridge Tourism Zone. The best season for viewing those waterfalls are considered to be at July and August in autumn.
