China National Silk Museum

Hangzhou silk is one of the most prized fabrics in the world because of its tight weave and sheen. China National Silk Museum is opened in Feb,1992. With a total area of 10,000 square meters, this museum is located at the foot of Yuhang Hill, south of West Lake. it is the first state-level museum dedicated to silk culture and the biggest silk museum in the world.

China National Silk Museum has collections and exhibits dedicated to all the processes involved in silk production from silkworms to weaving, printing and dyeing. This museum consists of eight exhibition halls: the Prelude Hall, the Relics Hall, the Folk Custom Hall, the Silkworm Hall, the Silk Manufacturing Hall, the Weaving Hall, the Dyeing Hall, and the Achievement Hall. The silk products including that from the Neolithic Age to Han, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties as well as some in present day, telling an authentic story about the stages of the Chinese silk industry evolving over the last 5,000 years. Vivid demonstrations are given in some halls, demonstrating the producing process of the silk products. Visitors with enough curiosity can try to weave silk themselves.

China National Silk Museum has been gradually developing to a high standard research, collection, and authentication of the ancient Chinese silk cloth. It itself is a good combination of culture, tourism and trade.
