Tiger Leaping Gorge

Tiger Leaping Gorge, which lies about 100 kilometers northwest of Lijiang Ancient Town of Yunnan between Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Xueshan) and Haba Snow Mountain (Haba Xueshan), is the longest, deepest, and narrowest gorge in the world. Legend has it that, a tiger once used a rock as the stepping-stone to leap across the gorge from one side to the other. Hence, it got the name.
60 kilometers away from the Lijiang county seat, the Tiger Leaping Gorge has a fall of 3790 meters. Lying in the upper stream of the Jinsha River, the gorge can be divided into three sections as the Upper Tiger Leap, Middle Tiger Leap and Lower Tiger Leap with a total length of 18 kilometers. Inside the gorge, reefs could be seen everywhere. It also has 21 dangerous shoals and 10 grand waterfalls. With steep cliffs and galloping torrent, the splendid natural view has attracted many tourists especially many foreign trekkers. As one of the three grand gorges in the world, Tiger Leaping Gorge is an ideal place for sightseeing and exploring.
