Wuhan
Yangtze River Bridge is the first highway-railway bridge over the Yangtze
River.
The bridge, built in 1955, with the help of the Soviet experts, made the
wish of "turning a deep chasm into a thoroughfare" come true.
Wuhan Yangtze
River Bridge is 1670.4 meters (5480.3 feet) long with the main body of 1156 meters
(3,793feet). It has 8 piers and 9 holes. The bridge is divided into two
levels with the upper one for bus transit and the lower for trains.
From the
bridge, you can see the rolling water run to the east with ships coming
and going. On the bank, Hubei TV Tower stands tall on Tortoise Hill in
Hanyang and the Yellow Crane Tower stands on Snake Hill in Wuchang.
In the past
30 years, the Wuhan Bridge Bureau of the Railway Ministry has built other
ten bridges over the Yangtze River in Nanjing, Chongqing, Zhijiang and
Jiujiang. But the first Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge is still the largest
and most comprehensive.
