Qinghai Lake and Bird Island

Qinghai Lake lies 180 kilometers from Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province. It lies 3,200 meters above sea level like a huge emerald amid high mountains and plains. It is the largest saltwater lake in China with an area of more than 4,500 square kilometers. Bird Island situated on the western shore of Qinghai Lake is the most attractive place in the lake, which gains the reputation of "Kingdom of birds" for providing home to over 120,000 birds of 164 breeds.
