Shapotou
lies on the southern rim of the Tengger Desert and the north bank of the
Yellow River. It earned the reputation of "Capital of the World of
Deserts" for its luxuriant vegetation, and one of China's four humming
sand dunes is situated at the top of it.
At the foot of the sand dune, limpid water flows gently in a knee-deep
stream. Tourists can climb up the 100-high meter humming sand dune and
slide down from the top, a resonant noise will be heard in this process;
or walk further to the bank of the Yellow River, where goat-skin dinghy
surfing and camel-back riding could be tasted. This is the king of sands
for succeed in preventing desertification.
