Zhongwei is a small country town, which 160km southeast of Yinchuan. It
lies between the Yellow River and the sandy Tenger Desert. It is an oasis
in the desert and is praised as "South China beyond the Great Wall".
Zhongwei is small enough for you to walk through the entire town. Drum
Tower, Gao Miao and many other intriguing sights in Zhongwei attracted
numbers of travelers. A traditional Drum Tower is its centre, and Gao
Miao is the best attraction in the city. Gao Miao was first built in the
early fifteenth century. It is a quite extraordinary temple catering for
any different religions, including Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism and
even Christianity.
